Restore your NeatWorks Database Tutorial
Welcome to the NeatWorks tutorial on restoring the NeatWorks database. In the Database Backup tutorial, we learned that backing up your database is the best way to ensure that all of your information is saved, should anything happen to your computer. If something does happen to your computer, you can restore your database with all of the information saved in your most recent backup.
Before we begin, you should know that restoring the NeatWorks database REPLACES all of the data currently stored in NeatWorks with the data that’s SAVED in your last backup file.
If you’ve added data to NeatWorks since your last backup and you want to keep that data, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps before restoring your database. Ready? Let’s begin.
Click the Receipt tab at the top of application to open the Receipt Organizer.
Select the folders and receipts that you want to save by holding down the “control” key and clicking on those folders and/or receipts.
Select the Export button at the top of your screen. Then select NeatWorks Folder File.
Save this file to a location you’ll remember on your hard drive.
Repeat this process in both the Business Card and Document Organizers.
Once you have completed the above steps you can rest assured that your most recent information has been preserved. And, don’t worry as we’ll retrieve this information as soon as we restore your database. Okay? Let’s continue.
The next step is to check whether the backup file that you plan to restore is compatible with your current version of NeatWorks. To do this, select Tools > Database > Check Backup File Version.
Now, navigate to the location and select Open.
If this backup file IS NOT compatible with your current version of NeatWorks, please contact technical support at 1-866-632-8732. If it is compatible, continue.
To perform the restoration, select Tools > Database > Restore.
The screen that displays shows the date of your last backup and WARNS you that any new data after that date will be erased.
HOWEVER, since you have already saved your new data by exporting it to a separate folder, you don’t need to worry.
Click the Continue button and this will begin the restoration of your database.
Click Open. Your database has been restored!
Now that you’ve restored your database, you can now add your most recent information. To retrieve this data, select Import From > NeatWorks Folder File.
Next, navigate to where your file is located on your computer. Once you’ve located the file, click Open.
Keep in mind that you WILL NEED to perform this step for each of three NeatWorks Organizers: Receipts, Business Cards, and Documents.
Congratulations! You have successfully restored your NeatWorks database. To learn more, please consult the NeatWorks Help file.
