Backup NeatWorks Database

Welcome to the NeatWorks tutorial on Database Backup. Backing up your database is a simple way to ensure that all your information is safe and secure, should anything ever happen to your computer.

By default, NeatWorks will remind you to back up your database every 30 days. But, you can easily set up NeatWorks to automatically backup monthly, weekly, or even on a daily basis. Let’s get started!

To change your automatic backup settings, go to Tools > Personalize > Database Backups.

The Personalize screen displays.

Let’s set up NeatWorks to automatically back-up your database weekly.

Click the ‘Automatically backup the NeatWorks database using the following options’ radio button.

Beneath the radio button, you’ll see the Database Auto-Backup Options section of the screen. You’ll also notice that there are three steps here. These steps allow you to customize your back-up location and time.

In Step 1, select a location for the database backup directory by clicking the Browse button and selecting a file path.  For example, you might want to create a folder called “NeatReceipts Backup” in the “My Documents” folder on your computer, and select that path as your backup location.

NeatWorks allows you to limit the number of files that you want to save in your backups. You can do this by using the drop-down arrow located next to the ‘Keep only the last backup files’ radio button.  For example, you can choose to keep only the last 5 backup files.

In step 2, select how often you want to backup your database.

You have three options: daily, weekly or monthly.

Select what time you want NeatWorks to backup your database. Here it is important to know that NeatWorks will not backup your database when the application is running. So, select a time when you know the application will be closed.

Review your selections and click the Apply button to save.

Click the OK button and that’s it!  Your NeatWorks database will automatically be backed up at the intervals and times you’ve selected, and your data will be protected.
