Error Fails troubleshooting Hangs crash "not responding"

I just received my copy of the mac version, installed the software, rebooted the computer (twice) and the program simply hangs when I try to start it. The second time around, it got as far as the "product key" entry screen, but would not allow me to type anything in... it simply hanged again.
Ugh... I am using OS X 10.5.2, ...
