To respond to what I think was your question, yes, other people have this problem from time to time too. First off, it's called Thermal Ink.. and yes, it fades into the paper. It's actually NOT provided by Home Depot or any other merchant.... it's part of their POS (point of sale) system, usually vendored thorugh IBM, Sable, Micros, ...

You'd have to keep your master database on one of your computers, let's say your PC. Then you keep a small database on your laptop of just receipts you're scanning on-the-go.
