Black Area now in Scanned Receipt Images.

    Black Area now in Scanned Receipt Images.

    I recently upgraded to NeatReceipts Professional Ver 2.5.6 from Ver 2.1.4 and I now noticed that when scanning a receipt that I now have a black area to the Left of the scanned receipt were in the previous Version the receipt would scan and there would be no black area shown.  What seems to have happened is that now the scanned image is no longer sized for the width of paper being fed into the scanner.

    I’ve Calibrated the Scanner and have the same results using the scanner and the NeatReceipts Professional Ver 2.5.6 software on two different Windows XP PC’s.

    I was wondering if this is now a normal condition since the Document scanning feature was added in the 2.5.6. Version or is this an issue with the Scanalizer driver not sensing the paper width and adjusting accordingly.

    This is a known cropping issue in version 2.5.6, which will be addressed in the next software update (which will be available in approximately a month).  In the meantime, you can also scan into the Document Organizer and in some cases that will crop the image properly.

    Even though you are fixing this issue.  It would be useful to have a manual crop and rotate function.  Even before 2.5.6 I would get the random uncropped image.  It's a pain in the bum to export it to photoshop, crop and reimport it.  Also it would help so I can go back and fix all the receipts that I have scanned with 2.5.6.

    I just installed 2.5.6 (Vista) today and I have this same issue.  If I scan into the Document organizer, it seems to scan business cards properly, but if I scan them into the Business Cards organizer it leaves a black area to the right of the card.  I can't get my business cards from the Document organizer to the Businss Card organizer, so I'll have to leave my business card scanning until NeatReceipts issues a fix.

    Funny thing was, this morning I scanned a few business cards into the Business Card organizer and it cropped them accurately.  Now this afternoon it's leaving the black area.

    Hi CrazySaguaro,

    We are aware of cropping issues in beta version 2.7.6 (vista).  Please trying cleaning and re-calibrating the scanner.

    When you fix the cropping issue will you be able to have a patch or feature that will go back into the images and re crop them automatically?  

    It is difficult to export as the other gentleman stated above but I cannot wait for the fix, and I have about 6000+ receipts in the DB.   Now I have a large amount of black space in the scan.  When you print them out for expense reports it eats up a lot of toner, faxes seem to love it as well.

    Of course I have cleaned and calibrated the scanner.  It only start since I upgraded to 2.5.5.

    I'm getting the black scan area too, but I just let it slide as a beta issue, but I didn't think about the monetary impact on fax/toner usage that would cause for corporate customers.... that's a good point.

    I finally scanned in all the receipts I've been piling up for the last three months (300+ receipts!) Let me tell you guys, Jenn and Sean, how many fond thoughts I had of you while spending 11 hours scanning paper at my mini-desk on easter Sunday.... lol. My girlfriend officially hates you now.

    I'll work on my version here to see if I can force the issue to happen on a repeated basis.  I know that some of mine did get the black areas, yet others didn't, and yet I scanned them all in the same session... I'll let you know if I think of anything creative. (besides how much I wanted to squeeze you guys heads through the scanner this past weekend. lol.)

    I just bought this scanner to scan in all my tax receipts for last year over this weekend and I am having this same problem with a black ribbon down the right side of all of my scans.  Not a good start- I don't know whether to stop or continue.  When I first installed the software it looked for an update.  Is this update causing the problem?  Should I uninstall the program and reinstall it, without the upgrade?

    I know it's a little frustrating right now, but it IS a new bug with the new version and they're great about working out the kinks. They had to release this version before they truly wanted to, because we all wanted a vista beta.. so, just remember the "beta" status and be a teeeny bit patient. They've been working on this particular bug for at least a week or so now.. it just came to their attention recently.

    My opinion? Continue... when the beta goes to a full release (expected in June) I'm sure they'll have this corrected, if not before. I'd personally imagine it will be well before that, but I hate to speak for the NR staff... so just accept my opinion with a grain of salt.

    Hi frazietl,

    The cropping issue will be addressed in a future release.  Sometimes cleaning and calibrating the scanner fixes the problem, however, not in all cases.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Also, please feel free to email me the receipts with the black area (jpeg or nrx files).  This would be a big help to our development team.
