    Making Folders for NeatWorks/Mac

How do you make FOLDERS on the NeatWorks for Mac? Are folders supported the same way they are on the PC software? The tutorial doesn't explain it like on the PC Tutorial. Are they saying that Collections are the equivalent of hierarchal folder system? If so can you make Sub-Collections?

I would like to know this too, because the current implementation is insufficient if one has lots of folders.

At the least, each collection should have expandable sub-folders i.e. the right arrow, when clicked, turns to a down arrow and reveals the sub folders.

I use NeatReceipts for minor home recordkeeping and I have a mess of collection folders that is less organized than the finder.

I just posted this message on the Suggestions/feedback forum but I think it's appropriate on this section as well...

I triple and quadruple that request. I just go the software and scanner and after going through the whole documentation I realized you couldn't create simple sub folders which is a basic feature on all Mac software. I find this completely unacceptable and ludicrous for a program that claims to be an organizational tool. The product description boasts that this software was designed from the ground up for the mac and is not a cheap version of the PC software but yet they have this feature for PC's. I have a hard time understanding how the programmers could have overlooked such an essential and "no-brainer" feature. How are we supposed to recreate our paper file cabinets without sub folders. For example if I have 10 years of bank statements and I want to subdivide them by year, I currently have to create 10 collections that fill up the collection column (and so on for each category) when I should simply be able to put each year in one in one main folder. Maybe Neat company should hire programers that know some basics about filing or at least have expert consultants... Shame on you! Please redeem your company name by offering a quick free update for something that should have been implemented in the first release.

    A very disappointed user,

Stop asking, they can't do this.

The Neatworks database is a very simple spreadsheet like contraption. Multiple categories/subcategories, folders/subfolders, etc just aren't going to happen with the internal structure as it's currently defined.

In addition, you would pull your hair out if they did implement it.  Why? Glad you asked. Neatworks stores all of the previews of each receipt inside that same database as all of the data instead of as separate jpeg files (Paperless) or a separate database (Lightroom). This is why it takes forever to load your collection as soon as you have a few hundred records. Neatworks has to load hundreds of megabytes of image data, just to start up.

I gave up and created a separate library for each year. It's still glacially slow.

The first thing they need to fix is (as much as I hate to say this) break any compatibility / interoperability with the PC version. Then design the database in a modern relational way instead of as a flat spreadsheet. Dump the images out of the database. Then Neatworks can grow and do all the things we want it to do :)
