    Neat Receipts and Windows 7

    Hi all,

I was able to get neat receipts to run in my Windows 7 upgrade from Windows XP. This is how I got it to run.

    1. Download the newest FULL update from your installation package.

    2. Right click on your file and run as "Troubleshoot Compatability"

    3. Choose second option "Troubleshoot Program"

    4. Choose first option "The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run"

    5. Choose Windows XP Service Pack 2

After going through the rest of the installer it will ask to reboot the computer to start as Administrator mode. The background was black through the entire process of installation but it came back after finishing.

I restored my backup file and voilá, it is working back again. I got no error message running Neat Receipts anymore.

I will run the application tomorrow and will update thread.

It is by far the best document organizer I have tried, and I do a lot of receipts...

When you did this installation, did you go through the calibration?

I followed your instructions, but could not get beyond calibration.

Re: Neat Receipts and Windows 7

Just a follow up on this post.

I have tested the latest release (4 sp 3) on Windows 7 RTM (32bit and 64bit), and the application and scanner work correctly.

If you are running UAC, the above will work, however I've found only needing to right click and "Run as administrator" will suffice.

Also, if you fail to run as administrator, the install finishes correctly, but you receive an error during startup of the app. When you review the error it mentions an authentication error or some error with the SA password.

To fix it from that point without reinstalling, just head to %program files%\common files\the neat company\Setup\ then right click on "Neat Database Setup.exe" and select 'Run as administrator'. This will reinstall the just the database and get it working for you.

I cant get beyond calibration. It only goes half way on calibrating , but will never finish.

If I try to skip calibration, it asks to calibrate on first scan.

Installed fine on Vista, but not on Windows 7

    Any solutions?

jhardison, might you be able to offer any insight as to why mine may not be working?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, I have UAC disabled, ran as administrator the file: NeatWorksv4.6.2FULL.exe

upon reboot and opening the program, i found the drivers not to be installed, so I went into the common files directory and found the driver setup files for 64 bit and ran it... to be certain, i ran the Neat Database Setup.exe as administrator...

I  opened to test scan and the balloon popup message says "The Neat Mobile Scanner Failed to Start"

Any clue what I should do??

Re: Neat Receipts and Windows 7

I just bought this package and I am having the same problem where Neatworks is installing fine, but when I go calibrate the machine, it just keeps going and never finished.

I called Neatco and they flat out told me it was my fault for running a beta OS. If I hadn't read such good reviews about this, I would return the product.

Re: Neat Receipts and Windows 7

Found a solution that lets you bypass the calibration in another forum link.

I could never get by the calibration on a new install in windows 7. After following these instructions it works fine.

I have not tried to calibrate it yet, but it lets you scan without first calibrating it. I got an error message the first time I opened neat receipts,

closed the error message, restarted it and it has worked fine. I have this on Windows 7 RTM32bit

This is a known issue with Version 4 Service Pack 1 that we are currently working to resolve.  Please follow the steps below.

Please click the link next to the scanner you are using. Choose to save the file, and direct it to your Desktop.

    White Mobile Scanner-  http://files2.neatreceipts.com/tools/NeatMobile2008Calibration.zip

    White Desktop Scanner-  http://files2.neatreceipts.com/tools/ADFScanner2008Calibration.zip

    Silver Mobile Scanner-  http://files2.neatreceipts.com/tools/SilverScannerCalibration.zip

Double-click on the .zip file you saved to your desktop.  There will be a folder inside the .zip file. We will come back to this folder so leave it open on your Desktop.

Please go to the following location:

If on Windows XP: Start -> My Computer -> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

If on Windows Vista: Start -> Computer -> C:\Users\Public\Public Documents

Drag the folder from within the .zip file on your Desktop into your Documents folder.

    Close both folders.

Open your NeatWorks software and attempt a scan.  You will not need to calibrate your scanner.

Re: Neat Receipts and Windows 7

After inserting the file in the "Public Documents" folder, the scanner works, but now the image is either too dark or streaky.  I guess I will spring for some more cleaner sheets and see if that solves the problem.  If not, I do wish there was a way we could use the calibration tool to make sure the scanner is working correctly, but until Windows 7 is fully supported, I guess we will all have to wait.

Re: Neat Receipts and Windows 7

Nope, the cleaner sheets didn't work.  I have a nice clean scanner, but the image is cropped on both sides and grainy.  I hope NW 4.? that works with Windows 7 will eventually let us calibrate the scanner.....otherwise I have a useless scanner.
