Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

I am new. Just got the NeatReceipts 3.0 (3.0.3) from Fry's today and have the software

    installed and calibrated the scanner.

When NeatReceipts starts up (after taking a long time loading), the first thing I got is a dialog box

"An unexpected error occured while using NeatReceipts Professional. We apologize for the inconvenience, please contact Technical Support if this problem persists."

I tried restarting the application and got the same error.

I am using Windows XP. Please help.

I just had the same experience... Windows XP home, 3.0.3 from Frys.   Calibration starts, feeds the calibration sheet about half way, and then comes up with the pop-up box saying "unexpected error."  Clicking OK, ends the program.

I've rebooted and tried disconnecting from the USB port, but it always does the same thing.

I just noticed the memory requirements are min 1 gig.  My PC is at 512 meg.  Might be the problem.  :(

I noticed that too and upgraded my PC to 2G RAM, uninstalled and re-installed. calibrate sucessfullly but unexpected error on application start up. If I close the dialog box and try to scan, it will scan but the resulting image is just mostly white background with some black spot here and there (sort of like photocopying a blank page with a copy machine)

    Thanks Jenn.

I called but just missed the office hours. I guess I will try again tomorrow.

I did some more digging around myself and found the supportUtil.

Based on the errorlog, look like I need a database NRQueue created with the necessary table to fix the problem.

Is there command I can just run to fix this?

Re: Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

Just an observation, but wouldn't he benefit from the 3.0.4 patch? I never ran 3.0.3 so I'm not sure if it'll work, but it's a thought.

Re: Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

Do you have any data in NR yet? Or did it throw this error right after initial install, or after you scan a bit?

That specific error can reference the database not being in the sql instance, which would be a little odd unless some software (virus software, etc) stopped the script from processing.

Have you tried pulling off the entire install, making sure the directory sql installed to is gone. (You can check under C:\Program Files\Common Files\NeatReceipts\Setup\DB_install.log for information.) Mine for instance wound up in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\)

You can also look at the last line of that log file, and it will show the result of the NRQueueDB_script.sql file, which I am assuming would be their script to setup that db and create the initial tables.

But yes, definitly get on the horn with Support. But post on here when done, cause I'd like to know what they had you do for reference.

    Best of luck!

Re: Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

    Hi, Alex

The database files are not properly installed - you're missing the NRQueue MDF and LDF files.

Do you still have version 3.0.4 on your machine, or have you rolled back to 3.0.3?

Re: Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

Hi, I still have 3.0.4 installed. I have removed and reinstalled both the SQL and NeatReceipt application once but didn't check if it was removed cleanly/completely and I got the error right after installation so I don't have and data lost yet.

Re: Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

The last line in the DB log seems to indicate failure (return code 1 instead of 0)

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\sqlcmd.exe -S DELL4600C\NR2007 -U sa -P "******" -b -i ".\NRQueueDB_script.sql"
INSTALL_RESULT after nr queue db creation script = 1

Re: Unexpected error when NeatReceipts Professional 3.0.3 start up

The issue has been resolved by Mike from Tech Support today (Wish I have time to call earlier) :).

    Thanks a lot.

The solution was to removing NR 3.0.4 (including 3.0.3) completely, reboot and reinstall from CD (I must haved missed some steps last time I reinstall). The application, database and scanning work correctly without performing the data fix procedure.

Just scanned in the Frys reciept from this NeatReceipt purchase.

Am I safe to upgrade to 3.0.4 now ?
