Importing of PDF files into NeatReceipts

It is a complete waste of time to have to print PDFs just so I can scan them into NeatReceipts.  It would be so much better and faster if I could simply import PDFs like I do other image files.

When will NeatReceipts be able to allow for that type of functionality as almost everyone of my bills and documents are in PDF format?

    Hi jacksonlt,
Thank you for the feedback.  PDF imports is on the list of future features, however, I do not have an ETA at this time.

    Sincerely,
    Jenn

    I second the request.

Nearly all of my hardware IT purchases include a digital receipt add to that hotels now will just email you receipts...so does the Apple Store.   So, not having to have a stack of receipts to scan would be great, I can just tell my email receipts to print as PDF and import them all using NR.  That would be great and one step closer to automating a fully digital expense system.

Thanks Jenn.  I know the scanalizer is apart of your fantastic solution but the fact of being able to organize receipts and the others things your software offers makes it well worth the investment.

    Regards,

I would also be interested in being able to import more types of documents.  I hate having to print everything and it sort of goes against the whole idea of a paperless office.  Not only does it not make sense economically or productivity wise, but it's environmental impact is something to consider as well.

Re: Importing of PDF files into NeatReceipts/ workaround

There have been a number of posts earlier about  "workarounds" for this problem. When i get an emailed receipt from airlines, etc. I "print" them to my efax (which is available as a free download at http://www.efax.com/en/efax/twa/page/download), this saves them in proprietery efax format  (*.efx). The application then loads and I can save it in TIF format which Neatreceipts will import.

There are also a number of trial software downloads that will convert PDF to JPG TIF etc.

Would be really nice if Neatreceipts had native support for PDF import

I am literally returning this product to Staples today because I can not easily import .PDF's to the datbase. I might as well just use  a file system and set it up myself.... It is so dumb not to be able to DRAG AND DROP .PDF's into this program.

Have you been around for the past 5 years? PDF is THE document standard. not efax or bmp or tiff or whatever. in fact, your scanner should, as standard, scan to searchable PDF and not a stupid image.

I know I am a bit harsh here, but, seriously, just make the product really useful. I would have sold about a dozen of these things if it had worked out!

Drag and drop of any item around NR would be handy. When you get into it you miss being able to drag a receipt from the folder in view into another folder.

Given NR has now got export to PDF I'd imagine they'd build import pretty soon.

That said, they tell us they have "dedicated staff" to all sorts of projects but its difficult to ascertain how far those projects have got. All I know is that I need query at the SQL level and that NR does everything in their power to make SQL / ODBC querying difficult for users.

I appreciate NR don't have the resources to fix everything. I dislike that they prevent me using my resources to make the product fit my needs.

Ditto - I just returned mine, too, after going through these forums and seeing how long users have been asking for this functionality.  This is a 3rd generation release?  I like the product and love the concept - it seems to work reasonably well as a standalone product.  But I believe the majority of us need something supporting two-way exchange with other apps' output.  With more 1,500 PDF scans already filed and countless email receipts (in Outlook), the work-around to display the PDF, save as a graphic file, and then re-capture the graphic is not reasonable.

I will look at NeatReceipts from time to time to see when (if) it gains functionality to import existing receipts from PDF and email files.

(Note:  I was never able to get the program to print (export) a PDF.  The program froze after popping up a "Disk not present" error.  Multiple times, multiple reboots.)

Re: Importing of PDF files into NeatReceipts

    New year... New functionality???

I think the ability to import .PDF files is crucial for all of us. I have literally accumulated thousands of pieces of paper over the years. Just recently within the past couple years we have all seen the media pushing "going green". I now have all my bills and statements sent electronically and all of them are in .PDF format. I have them all in individual folders in my documents to keep track of them. It's not the best system, but I'm not that handy with Access or any database programs. I haven't tried the multi page .TIFF import function yet, but the latest I've read NR only accepts single page .TIFF. Think about scanning in your closing papers for your home? It's frustrating because I want to go completely paperless eventually.

I have a Brother MFC-8870DW multi-function printer/scanner/fax/copier that I love. It's a 50 page feed duplex scanner that has the option to export to .PDF or .TIFF. From my experience with the NR scanner is that it doesn't do to well with 8.5X11" sheets. It goes crooked on me every time. I want to scan in all my old documents that are on paper to the Brother MFC and then import them into the NR software.

I give NR kudos for getting rid of all my paper receipts, however we all need more functionality especially importing .PDF files. I'm urging you to put this higher on the priorities list and at least let us know that you're working on the issue and that we will be able to expect it in the next version release.

My question to you: Should I keep my .PDF files in tact waiting for the function to become available or go purchase a document converter, or go about any of these random methods to try and convert the files in a round-about way wasting time and energy?

    Thanks,

    Darren

AMEN people!  PDF import support is crucial!  I am now completely paperless on all my bills, and a lot of them, especially AMEX are locked so you cannot convert them to .jpeg or .tif.  But if NR could some how build this into their software, I would be on my hands and knees as they would be saving a lot of tree's.

Re: Importing of PDF files into NeatReceipts

My new year's resolution has been to go paperless. I cancelled all my paper bills and statements (that I could) and I was hoping to be able to import and store pure pdf files inside Neatreceipts without jumping through hoops. Right now it seems to not be the case. As someone previously pointed out PDF is the de-facto stardard of Portable Document Format. It would be nice to finally embrace it in 2008........ I guess paperport is an option, but that would sure suck having to use two programs, not to mention the cost.

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all your feedback.  We will be introducing the ability to import PDF's in the future.  I do not have an ETA at this time, however, please be assured that this is a high priority for us.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Sincerely,

Re: Importing of PDF files into NeatReceipts

I am a relatively new use and appreciate the concept of Neat Receipts.  I would like to add my desire to import pdf files.  However, it should not stop there.  It should have the ability to import any relatively widely used document file like email and html files in addition to pdf files.
