    Hi SkyCatcher,
It's not possible to change the location of your NeatReceipts database.

    Sincerely,
    Jenn

    Re: Data Files save location

That is not a good feature to not have available. If the data file(s) are FORCED stored on the C: drive and it goes down you may lose years worth of data.

I recommend to all users to store their email ".pst" files on a separate hard drive for this very reason.

Where can a person make such a request?

We recommend that you backup you database regularly to either a Flash Key, CD Rom or external hard drive.

    Sincerely,

    Jenn

    Re: Data Files save location

    Hi

I think that I am in the same situation as many others.  I store no data on the C: drive, only applications and scratch data (in My Documents).  I use a second internal drive or one of several network drives for data storage.  I hope that there will be a way to allow relocation of the database to another drive.

On a related note, is it possible to move the software install itself to another drive (e.g. D:) so that the database now resides on that drive?  I keep a "Program Files" folder on the D: drive primarily for applications that I am not certain that I want to keep, but I do maintain a "Program Files" environment there.

    Any help would be appreciated.

There is a way of storing your datafile to whatever drive you want to. Simply install the software to it's default location, than move the SQL data file to whereever you want to. ead uo on how to move a SQL database location. It is simple, but make sure you do your homework before you attempt this.

There IS a version of NR that allows you to install it onto a non-C drive.  I had to get the link from Arlene at NR via a chat session, since the most recent dl version still did not allow this.  That was ~5 weeks ago.  I don't know if the most recent dl version incorporates this or not.

PS - the C drive is irrelevant in this scenario and .pst files are simply a subset of a myriad of other files than can get trashed when a drive takes a dive.  Non-C drives crash as well.  The best recourse is to have a recent backup on at least one other physical drive, if not more.

    Re: Data Files save location

Can't we get an install option to point to the location where we want the database?

I plan on a large amount of data and the "C:" drive is not the place.

I, also, believe it would be good to have a tool that would allow us to move the database to a different location after we start using nr. We need some flexibality as to where we want to store data.

    Re: Data Files save location

I agree with everyone else here!  If I had known this was not a feature I would not have purchased NeatReceipts!  I switch regularly between 2 computers and have my data on an external drive so I don't have to keep "backing up" and "restoring."  Bad move on NeatReceipts' part to not inlcude better flexibility.

    Ya, I agree...Bad feature.

Whats on this NR software designer's mind? He/She cannot possibly expect NR users to store all their scanned images onto the main drive (c) of a laptop. Especially when they refer NR to be portable. Most of us are using laptop and we need external drive to store NR data. Space on laptop is limited. I think they should refer NR as not portable so that it can only be used on my home desktop with 2TB drive.

    NR Software designer....wake up!
