Manual Database Recovery from Image without having a NR Database Backup Instance

Hi all,

Well, I am in a bit of a predicament, and hoping there's someone out there that can assist. I was running Neatworks 4 (the .exe shows a version of 4.5.288) on a laptop that was running Windows Vista x64. During that time, I had made one backup, but had since made significant additions to my receipts. During that time, I had thankfully created an image using OO DiskImage. Unfortunately, this image will not boot once restored, however, I am able to mount the drive so I can see my drive as it was before the crash. I had not performed a dB backup within neatworks, obviously the easy method of restoring my database is not available, especially since I can't get the image to boot in order to run the dB backup utility.

So, how can I migrate my data from the image (mounted as an external disk)? Is there a way, either using the SQL Express that is installed with NW, or via a full instance of SQL server, to get the data restored? I have access to SQL expertise that may be able assist me if it's more complicated than I expect. I have hundreds of hours invested in these receipts and I don't want to have to re-live the nightmare I experienced when I had to start from scratch when NR went from ver 3 to ver 4.

Hi,

OSX 10.6, latest Neat Desk arrived at my door.. from UPS... paid $400... installed Neat and now, find out that it locks up the iMac so bad you have to re-boot. What a joke... I will wait a few days for a response... none comes, no fixes... tada... back to the MFG for a complete refund.

Scenario #1... scan something that does not get picked up by the rollers... both SCAN and PDF lights start to flash green... and nothing will bring the Neat s/w service back to earth...except a reboot...

Scenario #2: try and use the test option: menu Preferences->Scanning->Diagnostics...all squares light up green... yay... and then try option Test Scan...Test Scan.... Boomf... she locks up.... spinny thing shows... till you kill the process or reboot..

Nice try... pretty plastic box that seemingly can work... waiting for the proof of that...

NeatWorks 4.7.7_57 (Non-Upgrade) and Neat ADF on Win 7 x64 Results (It Works Fine)

I just wanted to share the information I learned from installing NeatWorks 4.7.7_57 including the Neat ADF drivers on Windows 7 64-bit edition.

First off, as of 9/11/09 Neat is not officially supporting Windows 7 per the support number. That was not unexpected to me as Windows 7 isn't supposed to be released until 10/22 anyway. They were friendly in fielding my questions based on what they did know about Win 7.

I am not upgrading a database but starting fresh so the 4.7.7_57 version was not a problem. Also, I learned that 4.7.7_57 has the 32 and 64 bit drivers in it already and there is no separate download for 64 bit. To get this version, however, I downloaded the earlier version from the Vista 64bit link and then got 4.7.7_57 from the "Check for Updates" button in the installer.

Everything installed correctly and the scanner works fine.

Just thought I'd share the info for anyone in a similar situation.

Hi everyone,

I prefer the WINDOWS version of NR and would like to run NR on my MAC through bootcamp-Windows 32bit. (Virtual Computer)

The program installs fine but the DRIVER for the scanner does not. Missing .inf file is the error i get.

Anyone know of a different driver that will work in this set up?

Scanned receipt files

I would like for my Scanned receipt files to be stored on my external hard drive for archiving purposes. It appears the default location is on my C: drive.

Is there a way to move the make the other drive the default location for these files. I have only started to utilize this software & the amount of space these file utilize is startling for the home office user.

Hi.

I have two scanners, one portable and one desktop.

The portable scanner is used with my laptop, and I want only one instance of the Neatworks database.

Will importing scanned PDFs give the same results in Networks as scanning directly?

Or in other words: will quality or other aspecs suffer if I scan documents to PDF on my office computer and then import them into the Neatworks database on my laptop as opposed to scanning them directly?

Database restore issue

When I try to restore my data base file NW_Backup_7-27-2009.nrbak, Neatworks does not see the file it is looking for the extension .nwbak. How can I restore my data.

After exhausting all methods and FAQ on installation issues. I still keep getting this

Business Cards to Outlook Contact

I just started using Neat Works and really like it, but I have a couple of issues related to business cards:

Is there a way to sync a contact with Outlook so that the image of the card shows up in the notes? Right now I have to export the image, then import it to the Outlook contact. This should transfer with the rest of the information or allow you to set whether or not to have the image transfer. The Neat Scan to Office video shows that it can do something similar directly from Outlook.

Is there a way to send only selected contacts to Outlook? I don't want to always sync all of my contacts, but only to push the new ones over to Outlook contacts.

Wow - I am really frustrated - this is my first effort with Neat scanning receipts - how can I just print out the spreadsheet tables created while scanning in receipts? It seems I can only print very ink/labor intensive copies of all of the receipts, which I neither need nor want. The reports are quite worthless also. Any ideas?

Wow, I have looked at the forum and by all indication this product seems to cause as many problems as the frustrations of a MANUAL system....I would like to see if I'm wasting my time in consdering buying this product.

1) I have multiple companies that I gather receipts on...

2) Most of my receipts are credit card transactions that I need to CATEGORIZE by Expense Category so my accountant can get it into QBooks as they pay the Credit Card Invoice for the month.

a) Is it possible to categorize all of the expenses on a purchase of a credit card receipt? Everything I've read seems to indicate "NO"

b) Are you able to Group by "Credit Card Account" so that I can give to my accountant?

Before I go out and invest time to buy and learn the system, I thought the EXPERTS in the forum may be able to shed light on these subjects. I want to be able to give my accountant my CASH Expenditure Receipts report for the MONTH by COMPANY (I have multiple) and to have a document that shows how much I spent by Credit Card # and the categories of expenses associated that I can attach the document/report to the Credit Card Statement I receive from the Bank.

When entering reciepts the scanner does not detect paper. The program is nice but this is a pain and makes it more frustrating then our flatbed scanner. If I do not find a solution we will return this as unusual.

Sometimes it works great and other times not.

I have a desktop pc running Windows XP and a Macbook Pro running Parallels.

I'd like to be able to access my documents both from home and while traveling.

Is it possible when installing to configure to go to a large usb flash drive rather than a hard drive?

Scanning multiple pages

Maybe someone can give me an idea on what I am doing wrong. When I scan a multiple pages that are part of one document, it scans them as a separate file for each page which makes it difficult when assigning file names.

Is there a way that you can tell Neat Receipts to save the multiple pages as one document.
