International Version

Please, please look into an international version. I use it with different folders for different currencies but the folders show my local currency and US Dollars. Of courst the report section is no good to us international customers.

The only way round it is to export into Excel then change the currencies.

Do love it though, it has made filing expenses a pleasure (I never thought I would say that!).

Facility for tailoring OCR process?

Is there any facility for tailoring the OCR process for receipts?

When scanning my ATM receipts, it tends to mis-identify the balance as the transaction amount, and can't distinguish a deposit from a withdrawal...dates are missed also.

A gui tool would be wonderful, but I'd settle for a scripting language, just about anything as long as it's once and done. Another opportunity for contributions from the user community, also.

Problems with Smart Sorting

I had a problem today with the Smart Sorting feature that I find very frustrating. I generally scan 50 items at a time, the maximum capacity of the smart sorting feature. I confirm that each of my items is in the proper document category (receipts, business cards, and documents). Today, however, despite that check, I find that my receipts have been filed as documents. Is there any fix for this problem short of deleting all the misfiled receipts and re-scanning them?

I've just unpackaged and set up neat receipt for Mac & I'm impressed... and very disorganized with a love of gadgets... so thank you very much. I know it's on the forum here already, that you don't support your product in the UK but I thought I'd ask again: you've done a great job of implementing currencies (GBP and £!) please could you do the same for alternative date formats... so say you recognize £/GDP you also change the date format to suit? Ta!

costco receipts don't scan so well

Because the dates and totals are white text on black background, Neatreceipts Pro doesn't recognize Costco receipts. Is there any tweaks I can adjust to make it OCR better?

I just received Neat Receipts. It looks like it will be very helpful as my husband and I prepare to get rid of many files that are too smoky to keep in the new apartment.

I started with the tutorial in the receipts section. I had a short scare when I scanned a color receipt in following the tutorial instructions and it came out black and white. (I was afraid I had purchased a black and white scanner.) The workaround for this I discovered is to scan it as a Document and then paste it as receipt. However, the columns are not populated if this method is chosen. It can also be imported from a jpg, but that gets time consuming.

Is it possible to scan receipts in color? Would you consider adding this feature?

Is there a way to convert items that were miscanned and have the data extracted? For example, a receipt scanned as a document or a business card?

Database Matinenance and other issues

I bought the NeatReceipts scanner and have had mixed feelings about it. I had some database corruption and there are NO utilities for re-index. I deleted folders, only to find that the database is STILL 500+ megs. I try to print folders with over 200 receipts and I get errors. My system is running fine I have performed many diagnostics, I have 2 GB or RAM, and a 1.8 Ghz AMD CPU. I have 250 GB of storage and the process size (Memory Allocation ) is 300 meg.

Are you planning on helping us perform typical SQL database matinenance so we can remove actual data, by dumping out data once we have completed it. For example due to a tax audit I scanned in my 2004 and 2005 receipts.

2004 folder does not print the images at all if I try and print over 120 receipts.

This seems to have some SEVERE limitations. Are you going to put documentation as to how large or how many receipts the program is limited to?

Product has great potential, however the software to me is still in beta.

Importing of PDF files into NeatReceipts

It is a complete waste of time to have to print PDFs just so I can scan them into NeatReceipts. It would be so much better and faster if I could simply import PDFs like I do other image files.

When will NeatReceipts be able to allow for that type of functionality as almost everyone of my bills and documents are in PDF format?

I love this new feature! However, the receipts are not sorted in any particular order (perhaps scan order or order in the database). I would like to have the receipts sorted by date (or exported in the sort that I have currently selected).

I have folders for credit cards and general business receipts. Sometimes I purchase a business item on a personal credit card. I want to have the receipt in both the personal credit card folder and the business folder. I currently have to scan the receipt twice or export it from one and import it to the other.

I would love a feature that would allow me to copy the receipt from one folder to the other.

Clearing "Fast Find"

It took me a long time to figure out how to "clear" a search. Your interface requires me to click on the "Fast Find" button and select "Find All Receipt Folders". It would be much more intuitive to have an X next to the "Fast Find" button to clear the search.

Image Adjustment Crop Tool

The image adjustment crop tool needs to be resizable or have a zoom capability. When I scan receipts that are very long it is difficult to crop the reciept because I can't zoom in on the section of the reciept I want to crop.

Vista 64 bit

Ahhh... bitten again by the "vista compatable" ouch...read forward (sorry for the short rant in the middle) for solution to 64 bit problem

Bought the bundled package, small portable scanner and the software (interesting that the web site is mostly about the software, suggest that this change a bit, but maybe not, read on). Inserted Install disk, was able to go no further because I am using 64 bit vista.

1) Got upset

2) Read a lot of posts from upset users on the newsgroup.

3) Went to newegg.com and seached for mobile scanners to replace the one I just bought that is worthless to me. Why is it that I should have to search the manufactures tech support to find out if they support 64 bit vista? how hard is it to say "Vista 32bit compatible"? do your marketing/advertising people charge you by the letter?

4) Saw something interesting - the Plustek OptiSlim M12 is the exact same piece of hardware (visually anyway)

5) Realized all this is a software issue and all I want to do is use the scanner while on the road (yes I travel with a 64 bit vista laptop). I truely do NOT care what software I use, I just need a scanner. These are receipts, not 3D animated renderings of the seattle space needle.

6) Downloaded the software for the OptiSlim M12 which DID install (hehhehehe....) and provide drivers that work just fine.

7) happily scanning as I write this!

Please provide a prominant link to a download to a vista 64 bit driver should be easy, just link to OptiSlim M12 (ouch).

Leave it there and you get the point, 64 bit user probably do not need to be spoon fed FAQ's we just need direct access to tools to help us make the thing work.

Hide some Categories and Payment types...

I have been using NR for only a week and I love it. Keep up the great work – and keep making it better.

I do have a suggestion...

At the moment, my sole use for NR is to export to QB using account names that already exist in QB. I write database software and can understand how certain categories are tied to certain information tabs and can't be deleted.

However the inability to hide these unused categories and payment types makes it harder for me to find the categories I need (that is...when they are not filled in for me – which is a very cool NR feature, by the way).

So... if there were a way to hide unwanted Categories and Payment Types that would be helpful.

Better integration with Quickbooks

I think QB users want to know when NR will be able to scan documents of various 'transaction types', and then import them directly to the appropriate QB locations. For example, rather than just receipts, NR should be able to scan these types of documents, allow us to sort them into appropriate folders (Receipts, Bills, CC Charges, Payments, Deposits), and then accurately import them using the appropriate QB 'transaction type'. Importing only as "Bills" or "GJEs" is not acceptable. For example, at a minimum these are the most common documents to scan/import:

BILL - Bills from vendors
BILL REFUND - Refunds from a vendor

CREDIT CARD - Charges you make on a credit card
CCARD REFUND - Refunds you receive on credit card charges

CHECK - Checks

PAYMENT - Customer payments
DEPOSIT - Bank or money market deposits

Ideally, other QB fields would be available to enter/edit such as Customer:Job (both for Payments and to assign Bills/CC charges to), and a Reference# (for bills).

Interface Improvement

I'd like to see a button on the scan window (perhaps near the Document/Receipt pull-down menu that you can click when you're scanning a multi-page document. Many of us Mac users didn't know about the "Command Y" shortcut to scan this type of document. A button on in the window would alert a user to this feature.

Income and Payments

Wouldn't it be great if there was a folder type for incoming funds or checks that could be properly categorized with the payment copy. We are a contractor and product supplier. As such we have to file reports of income by many different categories. Sometimes the category is municipality related and sometimes it is the type of sale or installation. The groupings we have to summarize include retail, government, in-state, out of state, commercial, new construction, retrofit.

the best we have been able to do to date is use the expense folders to get data exported to excel to finish the work by hand. It would only take a couple of user-defined columns (or tables in the database) to be able to implement.

Incoming funds can also be done for personal income such as paystubs, unemployment checks, disability checks, income tax refunds, and etc.

Shared access to database

Except that my wife / bookkeeper can't access my scans from her computer! I talked her into buying this product, and we can't access the same data. There's something wrong with this picture.

Now stop and think people, how many secretary / boss or salesman / dispatcher scenarios can you go through before you realize that a network database is more of a requirement than an option???

Vista x64 support

As almost all processors support 64-bit now, a lot of us are moving to OSes that utilize it. Please make your software installable and useable on the x64 Windows XP and Vista. Many 32-bit apps work fine already; your's is one of the exceptions.

Paper size options

I purchased a scanner package a few days ago while passing through Dallas with the intent of evaluating the product for deployment within my company. Most of our people travel a lot so it seemed a useful product but there are some annoying bugs.

The first is that there are only two paper size options; letter or legal. I normally use A4 which is a different size to either option. Since most of my users also default to A4 this would open me up to too many questions on where it is. With the large variety of paper sizes available in every other piece of software that I own, why are there only two????

When exporting to PDF there are large borders, even with the "Scale to fit" option selected (???). What is this option actually supposed to do?

The database is good but we have both Acrobat and Paperport in the office without these limitations and expect more from the software I buy.

Currancy exchange

I have purchased NeatReciepts, GREAT PRODUCT !!

I would purchase six more of these IF there was currancy exchange colum.

We are based in Canada,most of our business trips are international. If there was a colum to convert the currency to CAD, I would order one of these for each one of our technichans. Without the curreny conversion I cannot recommend this to our other techs.

PDF import would also be nice.

IMO, security is an issue that really needs to be addressed & I'm wondering what plans there are to either be able to add password protection or encryption to NR and/or making it easy to move the database to an encrypted hard drive (IE True crypt.)

Funky Bug

Hey folks, not sure if this has been mentioned before or not...

I scan all of my packing lists into the documents section. After scanning I name the entry with a PO number and the company name. Upon exporting the document to a PDF, when asked for the filename I would like to name it, I entered amazon.com . After exporting the PDF, the extension PDF is not inserted after the .com I wanted to name the file, and when it was done exporting, instead of opening the file in Acrobat Reader, it opened it in a DOS window thinking it was a program with the file extension .com
