Re: Installing NeatWorks on W7 Operating System

If your system is up to specs, you can use Windows XP Mode.

Go Here to the Windows Virtual-PC page. You'll want to download the Virtual-PC beta and XP Mode beta then install the Virtual-PC first, then XP Mode.

XP Mode contains a complete virtual image of Windows XP including Windows XP license.

Once you finish the install, you'll need to configure the XP installation including doing Windows update and installing installing Antivirus & Antimalware software. When you're done, you can install your NeatWorks software and connect your NeatDesk scanner.

After you are done with everything and restored your database backup, you can use XP Mode to run the NeatDesk software seamlessly in Windows 7 as if it was just another Windows 7 program.

I would advise using Windows 7 RC 64-bit cause of the support for more than 4 GB of memory. Windows XPM requires at least 2 GB of memory to run. Download and install the 64-bit versions of  virtual-pc and XPM (32-bit if you installed the Win7 32-bit edition). You'll find that the Windows XP version regardless of which XPM you downloaded will be 32-bit as you will be running XP virtually.

On the Virtual-PC & XPM download page, you'll also see a couple of links which you can downloadwithin a Virtual environment to configure your own virtual installations of Vista and XP SP3 to work seamlessly.

I am about to install NeatWorks in XPM in just a short while. But I'm going to stck with version 4.08 which I still have on flash drive as the features I need were removed in later versions.
