You are correct. The VCard file format does not support images.
Here's something you can do to get the images in NR, in the business card section. It may not solve your complete purpose, but I think as of now it is the only way to do what you are looking for:
- Save the business card image as one of the following file formats .JPG, .BMP, .TIFF, .PNG, .GIF.
-Import Contact data using Vcard import.
-In NeatReceipts, when you click on the contact, right above the image section, you will see 4 buttons, Front, Back, Attachments, Photo....Click on Photo.
- Click on 'Click here to import photo'
-Import the image file corresponding to your contact data.
So there you go, you will now have the image of the card in the Photo section of the image area. You will just have to remind yourself to click on Photo every time you click on your old contacts that you Imported from Visioneer.
