Jenn mentioned in another thread that NR would be able to use any scanner recognized by Image Capture. This is great news, as I get a lot of receipts that are multiple-full-page in format, and these are much easier scanned with my other scanner's ADF. But, I can't get it to work. Well, I can scan (outside NR) to an image file and manually drag that in, but I'm looking for more efficiency that that.
My first thought was to change the scanner settings in the Advanced pane of the prefs. However, only the NR scanner shows there; I can't get it to show anything else.
My next stop was Image Capture. It shows my scanner with a nice little "Use TWAIN UI" button to click that brings up the driver's scan dialog, which works just fine for a straightforward scan. Which brings my to my first question: Obviously, my scanner is supported in Image Capture as a TWAIN scanner; why doesn't it show up as a device in NR?
My next thought was to use Image Capture and just have the result auto-routed to NR for importing. When I click the above-named TWAIN button, I get an intermediate dialog that asks what to do with the image. You set the image format (I tried TIFF and then JPEG), and select an automatic tasks - where I selected the NR application. Click Scan, go through the scan dialog, and the image file should be routed to NR. And it appears to be. Except... NR appears to not know what to do with it. In particular, I get this from NR:
The document “Scan.jpeg” could not be opened. NEAT Receipts cannot open files in the “Preview Document” format.
"Preview Document" format? I had JPEG selected, and based on the file extension, that's what's being sent to NR. Indeed, I can see the files in the Finder that IC created, and they're definitely of the right format. So what's going on here?
Is there some way to successfully use a third-party scanner that I've overlooked?
