    Cannot export to Quickbooks

Has anyone been successful with directly exporting to QB?  The instructions say to have my QB company file open but then tells me I need to close it.  When I do it cannot connect.  Tech help took control of my computer and could not solve it either.

    Thanks, Dan

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

I was able to use both types of export to quickbooks.  You need to make sure that your company file is not being access at the time the export start, ie Quickbook is not started.

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

I was able to export to one of my company files, but cannot export to the other 2.  I have shut down quickbooks, stopped the running processes but still get the cannot connect to quickbooks error.  I am able to open the company file outside of neatworks.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks!!

If you are using QB 2007 on Windows XP you have to make sure you are logged in as an administrator user. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but I have been able to export to QB even with QB running. The export works fine for me but the end result is problematic - I have another forum thread on that topic though. I hope this helps.

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

I am another user who cannot get it to connect to Quickbooks.  I have 2010 (had 2006) on vista and Neatworks refuses to connect to either version of QB.  I can do the IFF transfer but as others have already mentioned, why bother?  I bought this thing to lessen my workload, this doubles it.  I have had customer support trying to help me for close to a week now and they finally told me just to do the IFF transfer.  Sorry but that just doesn't cut it.  I am very unhappy with this purchase and feel like I was just ripped of by close to $200 for an item that doesn't do what it says it should do.

If anyone has come up with a solution I would love to hear it.  Otherwise I am going to fight for a complete refund through Neat.  This system clearly was not ready for market when sent to the public.

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

I struggled with this export as well, but after some assistance from Neat and Quicken, I was able to get it to work.  My system is Vista (ick) and I am running Neatworks 4.7.7_57 and Quickbooks Pro 2010.

Here's how I did it; a bit clunky, but it works.

    1. You must set up Neatworks permissions in Quickbooks.  This is not as easy as it should be.  I went to the quickbooks support site and searched for help on this.   a) from the edit menu in QB choose preferences. b) select company prreferences c) select integrated applications d) Neatworks should show up.  See note below if it does not. e) check Neatworks f) select preferences and then check the box to allow application to read and modify this company file. g) select OK
    2. Close QB
    3. Open Neatworks and select the file you want to export
    4. Choose export from the menu and export to QB direct
    5. When the page opens that says it is opeing the QB file, the operation will stop
    6. Open your company file in QB and then it should begin the mapping process.  You have to have your accounts set up in QB so you can map the data correctly.

Note: If you do not see the Neatworks program as an integrated application in QB ( like me), then you will have to use Neatworks to "push" this to QB.  The correct procedure I found at the QB website.  I am sorry I do not have the link.  I will see if I can find it again.

     Hope this was helpful.

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

If you could find that instruction page on the QB site I would be thrilled.  I can't seem to find it.  The only page I can find is the one telling me to switch to single user mode which I currently am.  The problem I have is it refuses to connect and there is nothing in the integrated applications list.  Extremely frustrated and honestly somewhat angry that this system does not work.  I truly feel ripped off!

I have the same problem (no Neatworks in the integrated applications list) and would love to find that instruction page on quickbooks site.  Thanks!!!!

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

Ahhh, finally got it to work!! Not sure exactly which thing I did finally fixed it, but I will tell you what I did anyways.  I referred to the following document and followed the instructions about making a new user.  But, the thing that I think really caused it to work is that immediately after asking Neatworks to connect to my quickbook file, I opened my quickbook file.  It then notified me that the application was trying to get access to my data.  I granted access and now it works.  Hope this helps!

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

I have not found the article on this, but what you said is what I did.  For some reason, it took several attempts to get the QB software to add Neatworks as an imbedded application.  I don't understand how these products can be marketed as compatible if it is such a headache to make things work together.  Glad to hear you got it to work!

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

Sigh, no joy here.  I tried the instructions on that page but no luck.  I can't get the quickbooks file to open quickly enough.  When I click the okay button on the first screen saying that it needs approval from Quickbooks, it gives me about 1/10 of a second before I get the "could not connect" box.  I have tried with quickbooks closed, quickbooks open, company files open, company file closed with absolutely no luck at all.

This is extremely frustrating and I am to the point of just getting rid of the entire system.  I am very angry with Neat because they were helping but once they realized that the problem couldn't be resolved with cookie cutter answers that were cut and pasted from their help files, they basically told me good luck and go away.  I will never ever recommend this company to anyone and will make sure to tell anyone who is considering the system not to waste their money.  What really ticks me off is that they won't let me directly return it to Neat but I have to return it to the retailer I purchased it from.  Well I bought it online and they have a 30% restock charge.  So if I get the privelege of wasting $60 for the privelege of returning a system that doesn't work.  I have over 25 years of dealing with software and hardware issues and this is the first time I wasn't able to get something to work.  Neat should be embarassed that they dumped this on the open market before making sure it actually works.

I am done with it and done with Neat.  Anyone from Neat that may be reading this, rest assured that I will make sure that everyone I know who is thinking about your system knows how you have treated me.

    Hi David,
I'm sorry that you feel you were mistreated by our company.  That is not our intention.  I see that a support representative has attempted to assist you via email, but the direct export to QuickBooks 2010 is unfortunately not working for you.  I wish we could address the problem, however, we are somewhat limited in what we can do due to Intuit.

    Sincerely,
    Jenn

I did the simultaneous deal, too.  That is what worked, but it took a few tries.  I was concerned it was the password on QB, but it wasn't.

    Re: Cannot export to Quickbooks

I'm sorry but I can't even begin to tell you how frustrated I am with your system and your company.  I can understand a bug that needs fixed but I find it completely unacceptable that when the problem was not something that could be easily fixed, your customer support left me hanging out in the wind.  When I explained that I would be happy with just getting my money back for a return, nobody in your company even tried to help me with a return.  Again, I am now stuck with a system that does not work as advertised on my standard plane vanilla Vista / quickbooks system and I am told that I can't even return it directly to Neat for a refund.  I purchased this online through Ebay, brand new never opened by a neat dealer.  I can return it to them but I will be charged a 30% restock fee and I must pay for the shipping which will add another $8 - $9 to the cost.  All in all I will be out close to $70 because nobody at Neat will step up to the plate and try to make this right.

Heck, I would think that someone at Neat might just want to investigate what may be causing my issue so they can address it in future updates, and can have an answer when someone else runs into this problem.  Nobody has even offered to call me to try and walk me through some settings, or even ask that I email a copy of a test company file so they can look at it and see if there is something in the properties causing this behavior.  Nope, instead I was told that it isn't Neat's problem.  If I ran my business like that and treated my customers the way I have been treated by Neat, I would be deservedly out of business by now.

Although I appreciate your apology, without a sincere offer to try and make me financially whole again, the apology rings hollow.   If you want to make this right, help me with a return for a full and complete refund, or at least work with me to get this system working as advertised.  I still have it, and I still would like to make it work.  If however nobody at Neat will help me out, I will have no other option but to sell it and take a loss which I will remember, trust me.

I have tried the simultaneous thing a hundred times or more.  It never works.  I get the first screen that explains that new permissions will need to be set in Quickbooks and that when I click enter I should get another screen which lets me make the settings.  Instead of that second screen, I get an error box that says that Neatworks could not connect to quickbooks, to make sure that I am the administrator and have permission.  I have tried the simultaneous button clicking when I tell it to open the company file, once the first screen is opened, at the same time I click the "okay" button which gives me the second screen.  None of those timing give me any different results.
