    NEATReceipts crashing and losing data

    Every so often NEAT Receipts crashes on my computer and loses data. I don't know the technical details of how SQL Server works, but shouldn't every transaction be committed to the database? I just scanned some receipts, edited some existing receipts, created a new Folder and moved some receipts from one folder to the new folder.

    I lost the folder I created.

    I lost ALL the receipts I scanned.

    I lost ALL receipts moved to the new folder.

    I DID NOT lose the changes I made to the existing receipts.

     
    This just doesn't make sense to me. I now have to restore from backup and do it all over again.

     

    Has anyone else had any problems like this? I'm currently running v3 SP1, but had similar problems with v2.8.1.

    I'm having this same issue , same version and its getting to the point I'm going to say piss off to Neatreceipts. I'll be damned if I'm going to upgrade to the next version of this piece of junk. I inputted at least several hundred receipts, had issues every few receipts crashing (maybe 20 or so max between crashes). Did this over several days through the past couple of months and I thought maybe it was just my imagination that receipts had gone missing so I kept going.

    Well now I know I'm not nuts. After getting my pile of receipts all caught up, I create some new folders to align neatreceipts to my accountants criteria for reporting, started to cut and past receipts between folders, deleted the two dead folders once everything was moved. Then went through all the receipts to check off if they were personal or not and during that process I had a group of 4 medical receipts. As I checked that last one, it crashed and when restarting NR's I now only have one. Now I have to go back through six months worth of f....n receipts to find out what they were. This is bull...t. Bad programming. I've been a network engineer for 20+ years and have never seen (well not very often) such a hunk of crap.

    Hi,

    Did you try the Fast Find option?  In some cases, apparently "lost" data may just not be set to visible because it does not fit currently applied search criteria.

    Clicking Fast Find -> Find All will reset the view, and bring up these missing items.

    Hi Mike,

     I periodically get this problem as well.  I'd very much like to know how to best prevent NR from crashing in the first place.  I also don't understand why Fast Find should be able to detect lost receipts - and what good that really does, because frankly, if they're not in my main window, then they're affectively gone (hard to organize, see, export, etc...)

     I may have to transition over to Shoeboxed.com because the software that comes with the scanner is simply not reliable and not updated/patched nearly often enough.  Almost every other piece of software I use pushes out frequent and free updates - so please, send along a fix for this problem because I can't continue losing receipts and having to go back into my "scanned" pile and figure out what got lost.

    I joined this blog just to tell how frustrated I am. Hundreds of receipts for my business are lost. Fast find does not help at all. Backup restore does not help either -  all backup files bring same results!. The program never crashed; not sure when it is happened, but I suspect that SP1 upgrade triggered the loss. I restored my computer back to before the SP1, no luck! Hundreds of hours and work past midnight are lost. Time to go back to good old excel.

    Quick thought: Neat Receipts promotes the fact that IRS allows electronic copies of the receipts; what is the point if the software is prone to such loss. I am glad I kept the originals.

    I'm on 3.1.3 and Vista Ultimate.   This is happening to me as well.  First, the software wouldn't retain any new folders (upon exit all was lost).  Uninstall, reinstall (couple times).  Now, new folders created, but randomly throw errors while scanning receipts.  I'm so sick of this piece of crap software.  I purchased 2.7. Then upgraded to 3.0 so it would run on vista (total joke). Then, got SP1 thinking that would solve the problems.  Puts microsoft's vaporware to shame.

    If anyone outthere needs independent drivers for the scanner (atleast something should be useful for the $200 bucks sunk on this crap)... The maker of the scanner is Plustek... Pretty sure it's the M12.

    I recently purchased Neat Receipts (V 3.1) and was so impressed with the intended functionality.  I have been using it for a couple of months but have spent more time trying to recover data and getting rid of deleted data that keeps appearing on reports, among other problems, than scanning and entering receipts.  I just lost an entire folder, my main one of course, and am reluctantly ready to cut my losses and stop using it.  Does this problem still exist with Version 4 or is it because I am still on Version 3.1?  I wouldn't mind buying the upgrade but I don't want to spend more money if the product is still flakey.  I have tried email contact to the support service but the replies were pretty much useless.  I will try the telephone support tomorrow to see if these problems can be resolved.  I just hate to abandon ship if I don't have to.

     If there isn't a solution, I am going to contact TigerDirect where I purchased NeatReceipts and suggest they stop selling such problematic product.  I will do the same with Costco.  I think if we all did that, we might get some decent support.

     Any suggestions?
