Time Machine. Which backs up everything on your computer and makes incremental backups based on changes made to files. The data file for N/R is .nrmlib. I'm pretty sure its default location is the documents folder.
I do not throw anything away for oh I guess ten years. I used to keep everything paper, nice and organized in a large file cabinet. Now,just as a backup, I keep two big tubs, one receipts, the other docs. I plan after some amount of time to chunk old paper. I don't know how the IRS is with electronic receipts but I've heard they take them.
