How do I export a scan of a bank statement to a .xls file?

How do I export a scan of a bank statement to a .xls file?

Does anyone know how to do this? Can this be done?  Or did I buy this NeatReceipt for nothing?  This feature is more important to me then the ability to scan receipts.  Please help me if you know how to do this.

    Thanks,

The short answer is that it can't be done directly.  But there are some indirect options that sometimes work.  Scan or export your bank statement to PDF file.  Then copy and paste the text in there into Excel.  You'll notice that everything pasted into the first column of the spreadsheet, but then you can try going to Data > Text to Columns and using that Excel feature to separate the data into columns.  Unfortunately, a lot of bank statements I've seen are still not conducive to this approach, but it's worth a shot if you're in a bind.

I found a better way.  Still indirect, but I think it may be less work.  First instead of opening PDFs in Adobe reader, you should use Foxit Reader 3.0.  It's free but it has an interesting feature.  Foxit's text selection tool allows you to copy regions of your PDF.  So you can open your PDF in Foxit instead and copy and paste each column into Excel and not need to use the Text to Columns tool in Execl.
