    Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

    1.  Are there TWAIN drivers provided for the Neat Receipts scanner to work in Mac OS X 10.5 (as a universal binary) and Windows?

    2.  Can I use the Neat Receipt software with my Pentax DSmobile 600 USB (TWAIN compatible) scanner in Mac OS X 10.5?

    3.  How can I purchase Neat Receipts without the scanner?

NEAT Receipts for Mac ships with an Image Capture driver, rather than a TWAIN driver.  The Windows version does not currently ship with a TWAIN driver either.

    2.  Can I use the Neat Receipt software with my Pentax DSmobile 600 USB (TWAIN compatible) scanner in Mac OS X 10.5?

You may be able to access the scanner using the Image Capture TWAIN Bridge, but we don't yet officially support any third party scanners.

     3.  How can I purchase Neat Receipts without the scanner?

Currently I don't believe that NEAT Receipts for Mac is available without the scanner, but this may (or may not) change as we officially support third party scanners.

Hopefully that answers your questions. We apologize if they weren't the answers you were hoping for, but the product is still very young and will grow more feature-ful over time.

With the image capture driver (under Windows or Mac OS X), is it possible to use the scanner without Neat Receipts?  I'd like to know how I use the scanner with other applications.

    Re: Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

Don't know about all applications, but the core apps all seem to work with Image Capture.  Just did a scan directly to Preview.app and it saw the scanner.

Slight problem though - it thinks the scanner is a flatbed, so no way to do multi-page or double sided scans, and you have to pass the page through twice to do the pre-scan that flatbeds always do.

Fix that, and the Image Capture driver should be just fine.

How did you get it to scan to Preview? When I tried a couple of weeks ago, and again just now in 10.5.3, the Scan button is dimmed. I got the same result in Image Capture. I can get the overview scan, but I can't do the real scan.

You have to select the portion of the picture you want to acquire using your mouse on the preview pic, then the scan button un-dims.  Would be nice if this driver got fixed to work properly though, as it is it's darned near unuseable for anything other than NR itself...

    Re: Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

Thanks for the tip. I managed to get my NeatReceipts for Mac scanner running via Image Capture. I used it for scanning business cards into CardIris. Had to either quit the app and re-launch, or unplug/plug the scanner to go from one card to the next. Haven't figured out how to make it do more than one card at a time yet. But it does work.

I also downloaded the M12 driver for Mac from the Plustek site, but haven't been able to get it going yet. I've read on other forums that the M12 driver will work with the NR scanner, but so far no joy.

This is very frustrating. When I was researching the product, I got onto NeatReceipts online support chat and was told by the support person that the scanner is TWAIN compatible and would work with other software. When I went onto the online support today, I got a support person who told me the 180 opposite. He wasn't trying (or maybe able) to be very helpful --- he tried telling me that the scanner wasn't made by a third party manufacturer, that NeatReceipts actually made it. Why do they bother with this kind of "support"?

    Re: Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

I don't understand this process. I did the overview scan which produced an image in the image capture preview box. I then used the mouse to select a portion of the page which resulted in a usable scan button. Then I scanned the document again which produced a file with a .iff extension no matter what format I selected. Even when I changed the extension, the resulting file was unreadable with a message saying it was corrupt or unrecognizable. So even with this absurd procedure I get nothing.

What is the point of an Image Capture Driver that doesn't even work?

Ok...thats weird....even though Preview won't open the pdf file, it is recognizable by Quicklook and when I dragged it to Word, the scan was fine. What's up with that?

    Re: Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

(I presume you inserted document again for second scan.)

Works on my PB 10.5.6 by changing extension to .tiff

then opens fine in Preview, etc

BTW, I first had to install NC SW for Image Capture or Preview to recognize scanner.

So glad tech support was wrong.

    Good luck

    Re: Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

Yes, I had done the second scan, but....

I tried again with the setting for a .tiff file and after the second scan it created a .iff wich I changed to .tiff and voila, this time it worked. However, having to:

    1) Do two scans

    2) Rename the file

seems a bit over the top to me so I think we can all agree this needs to be fixed.

    Re: Neat Receipts Scanner Compatability

I have been trying to get the neat receipts scanner hardware to work as a simple scanner on a different machine than I use the neat receipts software with.

I attempted to install the plustek m12 drivers on that machine, but the computer will not recognize the scanner, nor will the plustek software.

Any other ideas?  (Win XP operating system)
