I have had this problem occur twice, now, both on my Laptop running XP and on my descktop running Vista. The solution, below, works on both. Please note, that all of the files in the MSSQL folder need to be un-compressed, not just the ones named ImageDB. All of the files in this folder need to be un-compressed. What causes this is when you do a disc clean up and Windows compresses the files to save disc space. I hope this helps!
the contents of the SQL data directory may have been compressed. This often happens when the Windows disk cleanup utility is run. To correct this, first determine the appropriate directory. Load the Services management console, find SQL Server (NR 2007), right-click and choose Properties. Look at the path to executable entry, which will be in this format:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.(some number)...
Make a note of the path, then browse to the MSSQL directory in the path listed above. Next, double-click on Data. If you're in the right place, you'll see a number of files name ImageDB. If the text of any of those filenames is blue, they are compressed. Press Ctrl-A to select all those files, then right-click your mouse and choose Properties. Click Advanced, then uncheck the box that says "Compress Files to Save Disk Space."
Once those files have been uncompressed, their filenames will show in black text, not in blue. The SQL Server (NR 2007) service will be able to launch again, and you will be able to get back into the NeatReceipts application.
