    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

just another +1.  latest update, intel macbook pro, hangs all the time.  neat's tech support told me to run activity monitor and force quit the Neat ADF Scanner driver every time it happens.  This is not an acceptable long-term solution...I'll be sending this back if they don't fix it.

    update:

just happened again and now i am getting really frustrated.  it's hanging on the 2nd page now.  neat, we need to hear from you.  what's the deal?

I've given up. Where do I go to get my money back. I am tired of waiting. I keep sending requests for updates and get nothing back.

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

The clock is ticking for the Neatco. This mac software release is unacceptable. What is the Neatco doing about it? Apparently not much since we have not seen any public response even though this is a known issue.

    Shame on you Neatco!

I am new to the mac version. I thought the mac version would have been more stable. Did I do a foolish choice? Every time anything does not go through the scanner, the entier MAC hangs. Any news about this known issue?

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

I noticed that the NeatDesk scanners for Mac and PC show out of stock until May 31st on their online store. Since they won't reply to my issues any more online I'm going to call Neatco tomorrow. I'm hoping that May 31st is their date for a release.

I had such high hopes but have been thoroughly disappointed. I really think that if I were to keep the scanner that a partial refund or some other compensation for my trouble is in order.

I hope Neatco can make it "right" for their paying customers who received this Beta product.

I for one am VERY disappointed that NeatCO would send a product out like this.  I told the CSR that I felt like I was using a Microsoft product.  Going to give them another week then ask for my money back . . .  Shame on you guys!!!

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

I started this thread and am sorry so many others have shared the problem.

HOWEVER, that being said, it's a new product, and I'm certainly willing to give these folks the benefit of the doubt. With the new scanner I have to go into app monitor and force quit the scanner and the product perhaps twice in a work session. BUT, for me anyway, it still winds up being about 5x faster than using the old scanner. The double sided scanning, the sheet feeder - it's fantastic - it just still has a (admittedly serious) bug.

I'm more than happy to give them a couple more weeks or even months to get this straightened out.

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

Unfortunately (a gross understatement) Neat's software for the Mac does not work . . . period.

Neat should stop selling NeatDesk for the Mac until the problem is resolved.

I returned the unit (and flawed software) directly to Neat, from which I had purchased the product directly.

But I will gladly re-order it after the software problems are resolved.

I was able to scan one multi-page document, and was amazed by the speed and the fact that the scanner handles duplex scans without re-feeding the sheet and by automatically collating the pages in the proper order. But, virtually ever other single page, 8 1/2 X 11" document not only failed to scan, but hung up my Mac, requiring that I force quit the application on almost every scan!

I will continue to monitor this site. When the software is fixed, I plan to re-order the unit, because I think that once this product lives up to its promise, it will be a very helpful addition to my office.

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

NeatCo told me to roll back the software installation to the version prior to v2.14.017 and it has been working fine for me ever since.

In other words, I dragged the NeatWorks software icon to my recycle bin, rebooted, and then reinstalled the older version of the software that was on my CD.  (I backed up my Neat Library first).  When NeatWorks says there is a new sotware update (c214017) I don't download it.

I used to have the same problems as everyone else who posted here but this fixed it.

NeatCo said that it will soon be releasing a new software update that isn't so buggy (my words, not theirs)

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

I reverted back to 2.1.3.10 and everything seems to work on an intel mac. It's curious that the tech support never told me to try that. I still can't use my PPC so I'll wait for the next release.

    Hi, folks

If you've been skipping updates, now's a good time to stop doing that.

Version 2.1.5 has been released, and should be advertising itself as an available download if you have the software installed.

NeatWorks for Mac 2.1.5 Release Notes

FIX NeatDesk scanner driver stability and performance improvements on Intel.

FIX NeatDesk now allows scans up to 30” in length.

FIX NeatDesk scanner driver now functions on PowerPC computers.

NEW Expense report cover page notes can now include graphics via drag/drop or copy/paste.

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

Does the latest release (Version 2.1.5 (215086)) resolve the hanging problems that forced me to return my scanner only days after I bought it?

I plan to re-order NeatDesk for Mac, but only after I'm convinced that the software works.

Yes, the "hanging" problem seems to be resolved.

    end quote.

Mike, if you're making incremental updates, it is time _you_, Neat, stop doing that. Users do skip updates, especially if there is a known problem. Not everyone wants to be on the bleeding edge, and with Neat's track record, I don't blame them. I'm tired of being your beta tester since April 2008. And when you ignore your customers, they get upset.

For the users that say they are going to take it back, do it and quit your whining. Talk with your pocketbook and your feet.

    Re: NeatDesk Mac hangs

I've recently acquired NeatWorks for Mac and it works great.  I don't have any problems with the application hanging and the speed is acceptable.  The OCR and field population are the time consumers.  I must say that I am very impressed with the accuracy and speed of the OCR process.  Overall I am very satisfied with this product although I can think of several improvements that could be made but they are not deal breakers.
